Nivolumab & Ipilimumab

Nivolumab (Opdivo) and Ipilimumab (Yervoy) are two immunotherapy medications. These medications stimulate the immune system to identify and kill cancer cells. This treatment is given in two parts: induction and maintenance.

Induction: You will get both medications as 30-60 minute intravenous (IV) infusions each, usually every 3 weeks for a maximum of 4 cycles. Your Doctor will then do a scan to check if the treatment is working. If the treatment is working, you will be started on maintenance therapy.

Maintenance: You will get only nivolumab (Opdivo) as a 30-60 minute intravenous (IV) infusion, usually every 2-4 weeks for long term.

This treatment is very effective for certain cancer types such as kidney cancer, melanoma, and lung cancer. However, good knowledge of side effects is extremely important so that you can maximize the benefits and reduce your risk of harm.
